The song is for the people of Ukraine. Blue Skies and Yellow Fields (will always be free) features a reading of the lyrics by Nataliia Sarazhyn aka Наталія Саражин (in Ukrainian) and an excerpt of a speech by Ukraine President Zelenskyy. There are two versions of the song one in English and the other in Nataliia’s native Ukrainian. My daughter Jackie Heltz arranged for her friend Nataliia to do the vocal. Jackie sent an email to her with the lyrics. Nataliia’s three-word response was “They are beautiful”. It was more than I could have hoped for.
Tom channeled Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on his inspired flute solo. I believe Tom played it standing on one leg. I wrote the tune and play all of the guitars and bass. Tom produced and played everything else. By the way, that is me at the start of the English version attempting to do the three, two, one countdown in Ukrainian.
“Blue Skies and Yellow Fields (will always be free)” Music and Lyrics by Jim Heltz
Blue Skies are forever limitless
Darkness will come and will go
They can burn the yellow fields
But the fields will always grow
The sickle cuts deep in the Yellow Fields
The Fields of wheat will turn to grain
The Blue skies will never fall to the fire
The Sky will always remain
Storm clouds obscure the Blue Skies
Fearless the Skies shine through
The Yellow Fields absorb the thunder and rain
The Fields replenish and renew, replenish and renew, replenish and renew, replenish and renew
